I am a long haired male German Shepherd dog. Born in October 2000 initially
brought up with both my Father and litter brother, before ending up
in a rescue centre after apparently chasing a pony until it collapsed
with exhaustion. |

Following
a lengthy time in rescue I eventually found a permanent home in July
2004. My new owner soon came to realise I didn't cope very well around
other dogs, this worsened when we attended a local training establishment
- who in hindsight had a very negative effect on my learning, probably
due to their "old school" training methods. |

| Less
than a year had gone by and my owner sadly passed away after a short
illness, leaving his wife and me with a whole new routine and challenges.
Training continued without any improvement until we met up with Mary
from the Paw-fect dog school ............ we haven't looked
back since and 2 exams and graduations later we now know that with the
right type of training and reward many things are possible that we once
believed where not. |

On
the 5th April 2008 whilst chasing after his beloved tennis ball, Baxter
yelped twice then pulled up lame. He managed to walk back to the car
but was hesitant at getting out when we got back home, so to the vets
we went. They said that it was most likely a soft tissue injury prescribed
pain killers and said |

return in 3 days as Baxter seemed to be "low in his metatarsals".
We returned, as requested 3 days later and it was decided to X-rays
both front legs. A second opinion was sort by a specialist and it was
then that we realised Baxter required surgery, he had a condition stated
as Bilateral Carpal Hyperextension - this meant
that both wrist had been damaged. An operation was the only way
for Baxter to be pain free |
