Who is Baxter?
Who can this boy Baxter be
The latest addition to the family
He is walked and talked to all the time

Pampered and spoiled it’s almost a crime
But lovely to look at and friendly to stroke
It’s hard to believe he’s a canine bloke
But his paw got cut when out on his run
And the vet’s dressing has put paid to his fun
A covering of blue is on his back paw
To stop further damage to his open sore
When Jen brought him round to our house that day
I was surprised to hear Bren say
Well Jen I’m begging your pardon
Leave him with Dad in our back garden
‘Cos he can’t be with us when we go shopping
As on his poor back leg he would be hopping
Well if you could see him on our back grass

Sniffing flowers and plants as he went past
Checking where our cat Winkie had been
And parts of the garden no dog had seen
Round the patio and the table
Laying down where ever he was able
His tail catching plants overturning the pot
But for all that he hasn’t broken a lot
He thinks chasing butterflies is tremendous fun
Especially when he catches up with one
Tiring of this it is a chore
He lies down on the kitchen floor
But he soon jumps up when he hears the gate
‘Alright’ I say ‘its OK mate
its your mum Jen and Nan coming back
They’ll soon have you back on track

To look after you has been a pleasure
So well behaved you are a treasure
But as you go home in your car
Just remember Winkie is a star
He can track you with his nose
Sniffing after your smelly toes
As your scents around here remain
Don’t forget this is Winkie’s domain
